Srimad Bhagavatam Mahatmya Chapter 1
Srimad Bhagavatam Mahatmya
Oṁ namo bhagavate Vāsudevāya
Oṁ namo bhagavate Vāsudevāya
I offer my obeisances to Lord Kṛṣṇa, Lord Nārāyaṇa, Lord Kṛṣṇa, who is dear to Vraja
I offer my respectful obeisances unto Lord Kṛṣṇa, the son of Pṛthā
CHAPTER ONE -
O form of truth and bliss, You are the cause of the creation of the universe
We offer our obeisances to Lord Kṛṣṇa, the destroyer of all miseries
whom the wandering, the unfallen, the faultless
Dvaipayana called out, fearful of separation
The trees cried out in their madness, "My son!"
I offer my respectful obeisances unto that sage who is the heart of all living beings
After offering obeisances to the great intellectual charioteer seated at Naimiṣa
Śaunaka, who was skilled in tasting the nectar of stories, spoke as follows
Shaunak said
He shines like millions of suns, destroying the darkness of ignorance
O charioteer, please tell me the essence of the story, which is the chemistry of my ears
By attaining devotion, knowledge and detachment, discrimination increases greatly
How can Vaiṣṇavas destroy illusion and delusion?
In this terrible Kali-yuga, almost every living being has become a demon
What is the recourse to purify one who is overwhelmed with suffering?
Whatever is the best of the best is the best of the holy and the holiest of the holy
That is the eternal means of attaining Lord Kṛṣṇa
The jewel of thought is the happiness of the world, and the tree of the gods is the treasure of heaven
Pleased with the spiritual master, the spiritual master bestows upon him the Vaikuṇṭha planets, which are rarely attained by the yogī
The source said
O Śaunaka, I am pleased with you, and therefore I speak after thinking about it
It is derived from all principles and destroys the fear of material existence
It increases the flow of devotional service and brings satisfaction to Lord Kṛṣṇa
I shall now explain it to you Please hear it carefully
To destroy the fear of the mouth of the serpent of death
The Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, the scripture, was spoken by Kīra in the Age of Kali
There is nothing better than this for the purification of the mind
In the next life, one will become pious and will attain the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam
When Parīkṣit was seated in the assembly to tell the story
The demigods assembled there holding the nectar pot
All the demigods, skilled in their work, bowed down to the parrot and addressed him
Please take this nectar and give it to me
When the exchange was thus completed, the king drank the nectar
Let us all drink the nectar of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam
Where is the nectar, where is the story in this world, where is the glass, where is the great jewel?
After thinking in this way, Brahmārāta gave up the demigods
Knowing that they were not devotees, he did not give them the nectar of the story
The news of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is rarely available even to the demigods
In the past, even the creator was astonished to see the king’s deliverance in this way
In the world of truth, the unborn Lord tied a balance and weighed the instruments
Other things that were small were born with dignity, but this is great
At that time all the sages were greatly astonished
In Kali-yuga, they thought that the scriptures, the Bhagavad-gītā, were the form of the Supreme Personality of Godhead
By reading and hearing this mantra one immediately attains the fruits of Vaikuṇṭha
I’ve heard this for a week and it’s absolutely liberating
In the past, Sanaka and others, who were very compassionate, spoke this to Nārada
Although this was heard by the sage among the demigods from his relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead,
The young men explained to him the ritual of hearing the Vedas for a week
Shaunak said
Nārada was freed from the conflicts of the world and was unsteady
Where is the pleasure in hearing the rituals and where is the union with them?
The source said
Here I shall relate to you a story full of devotion
I thought about what Parrot had told me in secret and as a disciple
Once upon a time there were four pure sages in a vast city
They came there to associate with the devotees and saw Nārada
The young men said
O brāhmaṇa, how is it that you are so sad-faced? Why are you so anxious?
Where can you go quickly and where have you come from?
Now you are as empty-minded as people who have lost their wealth
Please tell me why it is not appropriate for you to be free from attachment
Narada said
I went to earth and knew that it was the best
I visited Pushkara Prayaga Kāśī and Godavari
Harikṣetra, Kurukṣetra, Śrīraṅga and Setubandhana are the places of worship
Thus he wandered here and there in various holy places
I couldn’t find any shame that satisfied my mind
I am now disturbed by the friend of Kali-yuga, who is irreligious
There is no truth, no austerity, no purity, no mercy, no charity
They are living beings who fill their stomachs and speak deceitfully
They are slow, very slow-witted, and unfortunate, and they are in trouble
They are devoted to hypocrisy and are detached from their spouses
A young woman dominates the house and a brother-in-law gives intelligence
The greed of bride-sellers and the stigmatization of couples
The Yavanas blocked the hermitages, the holy places and the rivers
Many temples of the demigods were destroyed by the wicked
He is neither a yogi nor a perfect man nor a wise man nor a man of good deeds
Today, the means of achieving this goal have been reduced to ashes by the fire of Kali-yuga
The Janapadas of Attasūla and the brāhmaṇas of Śivaśūla
Lustful women with hair tridents are born in this art
Thus I wandered about in the forest, seeing the faults of Kali-yuga
We reached the bank of the Yamuna, where Lord Hari’s pastimes took place
O great sages I have seen a wonderful thing there Please hear it
There was a young woman sitting there, her mind depressed
Two old men fell on their sides, breathing heavily and unconscious
She was serving them, waking them up and crying in front of them
She looked in ten directions at her protective body
She was being beaten by hundreds of women and awakened again and again
Seeing him from a distance I approached him out of curiosity
Seeing me the young girl got up and spoke to me in great distress
Balovach
Oh, oh, saint, wait a moment and dispel my worries
Seeing You in this world is the ultimate reliever of all sins
In many ways your words will bring relief from suffering
When I am very fortunate to see you, I will be very fortunate
Narada said
Who are you, these two poets, and who are these lotus-eyed women?
O goddess, please tell me in detail the cause of your suffering
Balovach
I am known as Bhakti, and these two are considered to be my sons
The two names of knowledge and renunciation have become worn out by the combination of time
These rivers, beginning with the Ganges, have come together to serve Me
Yet I have no good in being served even by the gods
Now, O wealthy ascetic, please hear My story with your mind fixed on it
My news is spreading, but please hear it and be happy
I was born in Dravidian and grew up in Karnataka
Sometimes in the greater kingdom of Gurjara it has become worn out
There, by the combination of the terrible arts, the hypocrites cut off her limbs
For a long time she and her two sons were very weak and slow to move
She returned to Vrindavan and was as beautiful as ever
I was born a young woman and now I am perfectly beautiful
My two sons are lying here, suffering from exhaustion
I’m leaving this place and going abroad
When they reached old age she was grieved by that grief
Why am I so young, and why are these two old sons?
Since the three are co-existent, where is the contradiction?
It happens that the mother is old and the sons are young
I am therefore lamenting for myself, and my mind is filled with wonder
O wise one, treasure of mystic power, please tell me the reason for this
Narada said
O sinless one, by knowledge I see all this in myself
You need not despair, for the Supreme Personality of Godhead will bless you
The source said
In a moment the lord of sages understood this and spoke these words
Narada said
O child, please hear me carefully This is the terrible age of Kali
He lost his virtuous conduct, the path of yoga and austerities
People are guilty of cheating and evil deeds
In this world, the saintly are depressed, while the impious are happy
A wise man who exercises patience is called a patient or a learned man
This earth is untouchable and unseen, and it carries the rest of the burden
Year after year, the auspicious signs of the zodiac are not seen
No one is seeing you with your sons right now
Neglected by the blind of affection, she remained in a dilapidated state
By the union of Vṛndāvana, you are again young and new
Blessed is Vṛndāvana, where devotional service is dancing
Here, in the absence of a receptor, these two do not even release old age
Something in this world is considered to be sleep for the sake of self-happiness
Bhakti said
How did the king test the unclean Kali-yuga?
When the Age of Kali began, where did the great essence of all things go?
How can even a deer, other than compassion, look upon irreligion?
Dispel this doubt of mine, for I am happy with your words
Narada said
If you ask me, my child, please listen to me with love
I will tell you everything, my dear lady, and you will be relieved of your fatigue
When the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Mukunda, left the earth and returned to His abode,
From that day on, Kali-yuga hindered all means of achieving this goal
When the king saw him conquering the directions he took refuge in him like a poor man
Just as a bear eats the essence of a bear, I should not kill him
That which is not obtained by austerities, by yoga or by meditation
By chanting the holy name of Lord Keśava one obtains the perfect results in the Age of Kali
Seeing Kali in one form, the essence of the essence is the taste of the essence
Lord Viṣṇu established the universe for the happiness of the Kali-yuga
The essence of the misconduct has now come out everywhere
The objects are situated on the ground like grass without seeds
The brahmins went to the Bhagavad Gita and went to the people
The essence of the story, which was carried out by the greed for a grain, then went away
They are very violent and do many things, and they are atheists and terrible people
They also remain in holy places, and the essence of holy places has passed away
They are disturbed by lust, anger, great greed and thirst
They also remain in austerities, and the essence of austerities has passed away
The mind is conquered by greed, pride and reliance on hypocrisy
By studying the scriptures I have attained the fruits of meditation and yoga
Learned men enjoy their wives like buffaloes
She was skilled in producing a son but incompetent in achieving liberation
Where is the Vaiṣṇava who precedes the sect?
Thus the essence of matter has come to be dissolved from place to place
This is the custom of the age, and whose fault is it?
That’s why the lotus-eyed Lord stands nearby to bear it
The source said
When she heard these words, she was greatly astonished
O Śaunaka, please hear me again in my devotional words
Bhakti said
O sage among the demigods, you are indeed blessed to have come to me by my good fortune
Seeing the saintly persons in this world is the ultimate source of all perfection
The magic of whose body is white conquers the world
One of the words is just a smile
By the grace of which he has reached the stage of Dhruva
I bow to the son of Brahma who is the vessel of all auspiciousness
This is the Mahatmya of the Srimad Bhagavatam in the Uttarkhanda of the Sri Padma Purana
This is the first chapter of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam
Oṁ namo bhagavate Vāsudevāya
CHAPTER II -
Narada said
You are grieving in vain, child, oh, how can you be so anxious?
Remember the lotus feet of Lord Kṛṣṇa, and you will be free from suffering
He also saved Draupadī from the fatigue of the Kauravas
The beauty of the cowherd men was raised by us, but Kṛṣṇa has nowhere to go
You are his dearest devotee, and you are always more precious than his life
When you invite the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He goes even to lowly houses
In the three ages, beginning with truth, enlightenment and detachment are the means of attaining liberation
In Kali-yuga, devotional service is the only means of attaining union with the Supreme Personality of Godhead
Having thus decided, the form of consciousness created you in the form of goodness
He is the embodiment of supreme bliss and is beautiful and dear to Lord Kṛṣṇa
Once I folded my hands and asked you what I should do
At that time Lord Kṛṣṇa ordered you to feed My devotees
You accepted it, and the Lord was very pleased with you
These two sons of knowledge and renunciation gave you liberation as their maidservant
You are nourishing us in Your own form in Vaikuṇṭha
You have assumed the form of a shadow on the ground to protect Your devotees
After attaining liberation, knowledge and detachment, she went to this earth
From the beginning of Kṛta to the end of Dvāpara, the city of Mahānanda was established
In the Age of Kali, liberation has been destroyed and is tormented by the disease of hypocrisy
By your command she soon returned to Vaikuṇṭha
You have also remembered that liberation comes and goes here
You have made these two your daughters and have protected them by your own side
Your sons, who were neglected in the Age of Kali, were born slowly and old
Nevertheless, please give up your anxiety I shall now think of a way to do this
There is no age like Kali, O beautiful one
I will place you in that house, in every house, in every house, in every place
They rejected other religions and promoted great festivals
Then I will not be a servant of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, nor will I engage you in this world
And all the living beings who will be with you in this art world
Even sinners will safely go to Kṛṣṇa’s temple
Those whose hearts are always filled with devotion in the form of love
Those whose forms are immaculate do not see the destruction of the worm even in their dreams
He was neither a ghost nor a demon nor a demon nor a demon
Those whose minds are fixed on Him with devotional service cannot be touched by Him
It is not by austerities, the Vedas, knowledge or action
The gopīs are proof that the Supreme Personality of Godhead is attained by devotional service
After a thousand births, human beings develop devotional service
In the Age of Kali, devotional service is devoted to Lord Kṛṣṇa
Those who betray devotional service suffer in the three worlds
In the past Durvāsā, who blasphemed his devotees, suffered greatly
There is no need for vows, no holy places, no yogas, no sacrifices
It is not enough to talk about knowledge, for devotion alone is the source of liberation
The source said
After hearing these words of Nārada, the goddess of fortune explained her greatness
With all her limbs nourished, she spoke to Nārada as follows
Bhakti said
Oh, Nārada, you are blessed for your unwavering love for me
I never give up I will always remain in my mind
O saintly one, by your mercy you have instantly destroyed my obstacle
The two sons are not conscious, so please awaken them
The source said
Hearing her words, Nārada felt compassion for her
He began to awaken them, rubbing them with the tip of his hand
He closed his mouth and uttered a loud sound at the end of his ears
Let knowledge awaken soon, O detachment, let it awaken soon
They chanted the Vedas and Vedanta and recited the Gita again and again
When he woke them up, they somehow forcibly got up
Without looking at each other with their eyes, the two salsa trees yawned
They grew up like ducks and almost resembled dry wood
They looked at each other, exhausted from hunger, and fell asleep again
The sage became overwhelmed with anxiety and wondered what he should do
Oh, how sleep goes, and how greater is old age?
O descendant of Bhṛgu, while he was thus contemplating, Lord Kṛṣṇa reminded Lord Govinda
At that moment a voice from the sky said, “O sage, do not be distressed ”
This venture will undoubtedly be a success for you
For this purpose, O sage among the demigods, please perform auspicious deeds
The saintly persons who are adorned with the ornaments of the saintly persons will tell you about your activities
When he was engaged in good deeds, he fell asleep in his old age
In an instant devotional service will spread everywhere
Thus the words of the sky were clearly heard by all
Nārada Muni was astonished, saying, “I do not know this ”
Narada said
This voice from the sky also described it as confidential
What is the means by which the two can be achieved?
Where will the saints be and how will they provide the means?
What should I do here, as I have been told in the language of the sky?
The source said
After installing both of them there, the sage Nārada set out
On the way he went out from one holy place to another and inquired of the great sages
Everyone hears the story but does not say anything with certainty
Some said it was impossible, while others said it was difficult to understand
How many others became dumb and fled
There was a great cry of distress in the three worlds, causing astonishment
It was enlightened by the sounds of the Vedas and Vedanta and by the recitation of the Gītā
When the threefold path of devotion, knowledge and detachment does not arise,
There is no other remedy, and the goat’s ears are covered with earrings
Even the yogī Nārada himself does not know what is happening
How can that be explained by other human beings in this world?
Thus questioned by the hosts of sages they decided that it was difficult to conquer
Then, worried, he came to the Badari forest
He resolved to perform austerities here for that purpose
Meanwhile, he saw Sanaka and other great sages in front of him
The foremost of sages whose radiance was like a million suns addressed him as follows
Narada said
Now I am very fortunate to have met you
O young ladies please be kind to me and tell me at once
You are all yogis, intelligent and well-educated
They were the ancestors of the ancients when they were five years old
They are always devoted to chanting the holy name of the Supreme Personality of Godhead
Intoxicated with the nectar of pastimes they lived only on stories
The Lord is always the shelter of those whose words are in their mouths
Therefore, old age, commanded by time, does not bother you
In the past, the gatekeepers of Lord Hari were killed by the mere breaking of their eyebrows
By the grace of the Lord they immediately fell to the ground and returned to the city
Oh how lucky to see you here by yoga
I am wretched and should be shown mercy by others who are compassionate to you
Tell me what is the means of what is said by the disembodied mountain
Please tell me in detail how I should perform this ritual
How can happiness be attained by devotional service, knowledge and detachment?
Placing them in all colors with love and care
The young men said
O sage among the demigods, do not worry, but fill your mind with joy
There is already a remedy that can be easily achieved in this regard
Oh, Narada, blessed art thou, the chief of the detached
He is always the foremost among the servants of Lord Kṛṣṇa, the sun of yoga
You should not think it strange that you are following me for the sake of devotion
It always happens that a servant of Lord Kṛṣṇa is established in devotion
The sages have revealed many paths to the world
All these are easy to do with effort and almost always bring the fruits of heaven
That is the path that leads to heaven, and that is the path of the gopīs
It is almost by good fortune that a person who is instructed by the Supreme Personality of Godhead is obtained
Whatever good deeds you have done in the past have been enjoined by the words of the sky
With a steady mind and a satisfied mind, please hear what I shall say today
There are also material sacrifices, austerities, and yoga sacrifices
These are the indicators of the fruitive activities of study, knowledge and sacrifice
The sacrifice of knowledge is certainly considered by the wise to be an indicator of good deeds
The conversation of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam was sung by Śukadeva Gosvāmī and others
The sound of that sound is a great force for devotion, knowledge and detachment
The pain of both will go away, and the devotee will enjoy happiness
They will be destroyed by the sound of the blessed Bhagavad-gītā
All these are the faults of Kali-yuga, just as the roar of a lion causes wolves to roar
Devotion, combined with knowledge and detachment, brings the taste of love
Then he will play with every household and every relative
Narada said
It was enlightened by the sounds of the Vedas and Vedanta and by the recitation of the Gita
When the threefold path of devotional service, knowledge and detachment does not arise,
How can one understand that from the conversation of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam?
In these stories the meaning of the Vedas is explained in verse by verse
May you, whose vision is infallible, cut off this doubt
There is no need to delay in this, O compassionate ones who have taken refuge in you
The young men said
The story of the Bhagavad-gītā is born from the essence of the Vedas and Upaniṣads
The most excellent of these appears to be a distinct form of fruit
The juice remains at the tip of the root, as if it were not tasty
That delightful universe again appeared separate from the fruit
Just as butter in milk does not taste good,
That cow’s milk, which is a separate product, enhances the taste of the demigods
Sugar covers the beginning and middle of the sugarcane
That story of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is distinct and sweet
This is the Bhāgavatam, the Purāṇa, which is equal to the Supreme Personality of Godhead
It is revealed for the establishment of devotional service, knowledge and detachment
Vedanta Veda well-bathed in the doer of the Gita
O Vyāsa, the tormented woman is bewildered in the ocean of ignorance
Then you mentioned it in the past, which is composed of four verses
On hearing this Bādarāyaṇa immediately became free from obstacles
Why are you surprised at that, since you are asking questions?
One should hear the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, which destroys sorrow and pain
Narada said
And the sight of which immediately destroys evils
It breastfeeds the best of those who are tormented by your pain
The only drinks of the rest of the rest of the mouth, the song, the story
I have taken shelter of you for the sake of illuminating your love
By the rise of fortune and wiped out in many births
When a person attains true association,
The darkness of delusion caused by ignorance-
Discrimination arises after the destruction of the body
This is the Mahatmya of the Srimad Bhagavatam in the Uttarkhanda of the Sri Padma Purana
This is the second chapter of the conversation between Kumara and Nārada
Oṁ namo bhagavate Vāsudevāya
CHAPTER THREE -
Narada said
I shall perform a sacrifice of knowledge, bright with the story of the scriptures of Śukadeva Gosvāmī
Endeavor to establish devotional service, knowledge and detachment
Please tell me where I should perform the sacrifice and the place
Those well versed in the Vedas should describe the glories of the scriptures of Śukadeva Gosvāmī
How many days should one hear the story of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam?
What is the method to be followed in this regard? Please tell me from here
The young men said
O Nārada, please hear what I shall now explain to you, who are humble and discriminating
Near the gate of the Ganges there is a bank called Mananda
It is attended by various sages, demigods and Siddhas
The fresh, soft sand was strewn with various creepers
It is beautifully situated in a secluded place and is fragrant with golden lotuses
There is no enmity in the mind of the living beings who are nearby
You should therefore perform the sacrifice of knowledge without effort
There will be a story of unprecedented taste
The body in front of him was weak and worn out by old age
If you put both of these things first, devotional service will come to you
Wherever there is news of the Bhagavad-gītā, one should go there for devotional service
Hearing the sound of the story, the triplets become young
The source said
Having said this, the young men then sat down with Nārada
They hurried to the bank of the Ganges to drink the story
When they reached the shore there was a commotion
The same is true of the planets Bhūrloka, Devaloka and Brahmaloka
They are greedy for the taste of drinking the nectar of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam
All the Vaiṣṇavas were the first to run away
Bhrigu, Vasishta, Cyavana and Gautama
Medhatithi and Devaladevarata
Rama and Gadhi's son Shakala
They are the sons of Mṛkaṇḍu, the trija and the fig tree
The two masters of yoga, Vyasa and Parashar
The shadow parrot, Jajali and Jahnu are the chiefs
All these hosts of sages are co-sons and disciples
They returned with their wives, accompanied by great affection
The Vedas, the Vedas, the mantras, the tantras and the idols
The seventeen Purāṇas and six scriptures were also introduced
There are rivers like the Ganges and lakes like the Pushkara
They also described all the fields and forests in all directions, such as Daṇḍaka
Nagas and other demigods, Gandharvas and demons went there
Because of their heavy weight, Bhṛgu addressed the men who had not come there and brought them back
She was initiated by Lord Nārada and was given an excellent seat
The young men, devoted to Lord Kṛṣṇa, were worshiped by all and sat down
They were Vaiṣṇavas, detached, ascetics and celibates
They stood in the front part of the table and Narada stood in front of them
On one side were the sages, and on the other side were the demigods
The Vedas and Upaniṣads are in another place, and holy places are in another place, and women are in another place
The sound of victory, the sound of namas and the sound of conchshells
There was a huge pile of powdered wood and flowers
How many heroes of the gods boarded the planes?
They scattered the flowers of the Kalpa tree on all the demigods
The source said
Thus they were all fixed in their minds on the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam
They clearly described the glories of the Lord to the great sage Nārada
The young men said
Now we shall describe to you the glories of the scriptures of Śukadeva Gosvāmī
By merely hearing the name of the Lord, liberation is attained in the palm of His hand
The story of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is always to be served
Just by hearing about her, the Supreme Personality of Godhead takes shelter of her
The book is eighteen thousand years long and comprises twelve chapters
Now please hear from me the conversation between Parīkṣit and Śukadeva Gosvāmī
Meanwhile, in this cycle of material existence, man wanders about in ignorance
As long as the story of the scriptures of Śukadeva Gosvāmī has not reached my ears for a moment
What is the use of many confusing scriptures and Puranas that we have heard?
One scripture, the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, thunders with the gift of liberation
The story of the Bhagavad-gītā is also a daily occurrence in the household
That house is a holy place and destroys the sins of those who live there
There were thousands of horse sacrifices and hundreds of Vājapeya sacrifices
They do not deserve the sixteenth art of telling the story of Śukadeva Gosvāmī
As long as the sins of the body remain in this body, they are rich in austerities
Until people hear the glorious Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam properly,
Neither the Ganges nor Gaya nor Kāśī nor Pushkara nor Prayāga
By the fruits of the story of Śukadeva Gosvāmī one should attain equality
A half verse or a foot of a verse is always derived from the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam
If you desire the supreme destination, please read this mantra with your own mouth
The Vedas are the origin of the Vedas, the mother of the Vedas, and the Puruṣa is the Sūkta
The three Vedas, the Bhāgavatam and the twelve syllables, are also mentioned
The twelve souls and the Prayaga are the times of the year
The brāhmaṇas performed the agnihotra and Surabhi Dvādaśī
Tulsi, Vasanta and Puruṣottama are also mentioned
In fact, the intelligent do not consider these to be separate
Anyone who constantly recites the scriptures of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam should do so in a meaningful way
There is no doubt that the sins committed in millions of births are destroyed
Anyone who recites half a verse or a foot of a verse in the Bhāgavatam
He always obtains the merit of the Rājasūya and Aśvamedha sacrifices
I have spoken the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and have always meditated on the Supreme Personality of Godhead
Feeding on tulasī leaves and equally serving the cows
At the end of the day, however, the words of the Śukadeva Gosvāmī are heard
Out of love for that devotee, Lord Govinda grants him the Vaikuṇṭha planets
He who gives this gift to a Vaiṣṇava with a golden lion
That man certainly attains union with Lord Kṛṣṇa
Even in his unborn life, he has done something deceitful
I didn’t drink the story of the parrot scripture, fixing my mind
He brought him like a bastard and like an ass
They are false, and they are the victims of their own birth, motherhood and suffering
He is said to be a living cow but he is a sinner
He had heard nothing of the story of the parrot
Woe to man who is like an animal and a burden on the earth
The chiefs of the assembly of demigods in heaven speak thus
It is rare in this world to tell a story that is based on the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam
It is obtained by the merit of a million births
Therefore, O wise treasure of yoga, you should listen to her with great care
There is no rule for the days, and it is always considered to be hearing
Truth and celibacy are always considered to be hearing
Since it is impossible to do so in the Age of Kali, it is understood that there is a difference between this and the order of Śukadeva Gosvāmī
Conquering the mind and instincts and following the rules
Since it is impossible to perform initiation it is recommended to hear the Vedas for seven days
If one hears the Vedas daily in the month of Māgha with faith, that is the fruit of his worship
That fruit was obtained by Lord Śukadeva Gosvāmī in a week’s hearing
It conquers the mind, causes disease, and decreases the life span of a man
Because of the many faults of Kali-yuga it is recommended that one should hear the Vedas for a week
That which is not obtained by austerities, by yoga or by meditation
One can easily obtain all that in a week’s hearing
A week roars from sacrifice, and a week roars from vows
The holy places are always roaring with loud voices because of their austerities
The week roars with yoga, meditation and knowledge
What can we say about his roaring?
Shaunak said
This is a wonderfully told story
At present, ignoring the dharmas of knowledge and others
You are free from the Bhagavad Purana
Where did he come from, indicating that he was a yogi?
The source said
When Lord Kṛṣṇa was about to leave the earth and return to His abode,
After hearing the eleventh mantra, Uddhava spoke the following words
Uddhava said
O Govinda, after performing the duties of Your devotees, You will go away
I have great anxiety in my mind Please hear her and be happy
This terrible Kali-yuga has come and the wicked will again be there
When even the devotees will become violent by association with the pure devotees
Why should the heavy earth then take refuge in the form of a cow?
O lotus-eyed one there is no savior other than You
Therefore, O compassionate devotee, please show mercy to the virtuous and do not go away
For the sake of His devotees He was born with the modes of nature and although formless He is conscious
How can those devotees remain on earth without You?
Think of something about the difficulty of worshiping the devoid of the modes of nature
Hearing these words of Uddhava, Lord Hari thought in Prabhāsa
What can I do to rely on my devotees?
Whatever effulgence he had become his own, he placed in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam
To disappear, Lord Kṛṣṇa entered the ocean of the glorious devotees
This is why this verbal form of the Lord is directly present
By serving, hearing, reading and seeing it destroys all sins
Hearing it for a week made it more than anyone else’s
In Kali-yuga, rejecting the means of attainment, this religious principle has been described
It is also used to wash away the sins of suffering, poverty, misfortune and misfortune
In the Age of Kali this religious principle has been declared to conquer lust and anger
Otherwise, the Vaiṣṇava illusion is very difficult to give up even for the demigods
How can men give up the week I have described?
The source said
Thus in the Nagahashravanorudharma
When the sages were revealed in the assembly
One surprise happened then
O Śaunaka, please hear what is said
Bhakti took her two young sons
The only form of love suddenly appeared
Sri Krishna Govinda Hare Murare
She repeatedly called him Natha
And that which had come, dressed in the meaning of the Bhagavad-gītā
The members saw them dressed in beautiful clothes
How did I enter and how did I come?
They argued that it was in the midst of the sages
The young men spoke the words then
This is now out of the story
Hearing these words she and her daughter
She humbly addressed Sanatkumara
Bhakti said
You have nourished me today
Even if Kali is destroyed by the taste of the story
Tell me where I am staying now
The brāhmaṇas spoke these words to her
She is the form of Govinda among the devotees
Love is the only holder and destroyer of the diseases of death
She and you stay with good patience
They constantly kept their minds fixed on the Vaiṣṇavas
Even then, these are the faults of the heart
They couldn’t see the origin of the world
Thus devotion even at the time of that command
Then she sat down in the mind of Haridāsa
Blessed are the poor in the midst of the whole world
The one and only devotion of Lord Śrī Hari dwells in their hearts
Even Hari left his own world altogether
He enters their hearts, bound by the thread of devotional service
Let us tell you today what is more glorious than this
He is the Absolute Truth and is surrounded by devotees on earth
By which reliance a good speaker obtains when told
Even the listener is equal to Kṛṣṇa and is purified by other religious practices
This is the Mahatmya of the Srimad Bhagavatam in the Uttarkhanda of the Sri Padma Purana
This is the third chapter of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam
Oṁ namo bhagavate Vāsudevāya
CHAPTER FOUR -
The source said
Then, seeing the transcendental devotion in the minds of the Vaiṣṇavas,
The Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is very affectionate to His devotees, left His own world
The garland of forests is dark brown and beautifully dressed in yellow
He was adorned with a golden ornament and wore a shining crown and earrings
He is adorned with three fragments and is adorned with a beautiful Kaustubha gem
The beauty of the crore of mantras is decorated with green sandalwood paste
He is the embodiment of supreme bliss and is sweet and holds a fiddle
He entered the spotless hearts of His devotees
And all the Vaiṣṇavas who lived in Vaikuṇṭha, such as Uddhava
They stood in a mysterious form to hear the story of the Lord
Then the noise of victory and victory was transcendental, nourishing the taste
There was repeated rain of powdered flowers and the sound of conchshells
Those who are present in that assembly forget their body, home and self
Seeing her in that state, Nārada addressed her as follows
This is a supernatural glory, O sages
I’ve seen him today born for a week
Fools and deceivers who are animals and birds here
All of them are sinless
Therefore there is nothing in the world of men
It is sacred in Kali-yuga to purify the mind
It is destructive to the flood of sins as well
There is nothing on earth equal to the story
Tell me which ones are pure
By the weekly sacrifice and the story
Considering the welfare of the world by the merciful
Some new path has been revealed
The young men said
Those human beings who have always sinned
They are always engaged in evil deeds and go astray
Burnt by the fire of anger they are crooked and lustful
In Kali-yuga they purify themselves by performing weekly sacrifices
Devoid of truth, they spoil their parents-
They were thirsty and devoid of the religious duties of the hermitage
Those who are hypocritical, jealous and violent
In Kali-yuga they purify themselves by performing weekly sacrifices
The five serious sins are deceitful and disguised
They are cruel and merciless like vampires
They are self-sufficient in Brahman and commit adultery
In Kali-yuga they purify themselves by performing weekly sacrifices
Sin in body, speech and mind
Those who are stubbornly cheating are always doing it
They are dirty and evil-minded, fed by others
In Kali-yuga they purify themselves by performing weekly sacrifices
Here we shall relate to you an ancient history
The mere hearing of this mantra brings about the loss of sin
On the banks of the Tungabhadra there used to be an excellent town
The varṇas in that kingdom are devoted to truthfulness and good deeds according to their own religious duties
In that city there lived Atmadeva who was an expert in all the Vedas
He is as skilled in the hearing and remembrance as the second sun
A monk was a wealthy man in the world, and his beloved was known as Dhundhuli
She was always beautiful and always kept her word and was born in a good family
The gossip of the world is cruel and often talkative
She was valiant in her household chores but miserly and loved quarrels
As they lived in this way, the couple enjoyed themselves in love
Their wealth and desires were not present for their happiness
Later, the two of them began to practice religious duties for the sake of their children
Then he gave cows, land, gold and clothing to the poor
Nevertheless they brought half of their wealth through the path of righteousness
He had no son or daughter and was greatly distressed
Once the brāhmaṇa left home in grief and went to the forest
At noon he became thirsty and reached a pond
He drank the water and sat down, exhausted by the suffering of his subjects
After a moment a certain renunciate arrived
Seeing the yellow water, the brāhmaṇa went to him
He bowed at his feet and stood before him, breathing heavily
Yati said
O brāhmaṇa, why are you crying? What is your greatest anxiety?
Please tell me at once the cause of your distress
The Brahmin said
What can I say, O sage, about the suffering accumulated by past sins?
My ancestors enjoyed the hot water of the Kava
The demigods, brāhmaṇas and others do not accept what I give them with pleasure
I have come here to give up my life, empty of the misery of my subjects
Fie upon a life without children, and fie upon a house without children
Fie upon the wealth of one who has no children, and fie upon a family without offspring
The cow I keep will be barren in every way
The tree I planted will also become barren
The fruit that has come to my house will soon be destroyed
I am unfortunate and have no children, so why should I live?
Having spoken thus he cried out loudly beside him in great distress
At that time, the greatest compassion in the mind of the Yati was felt
The yogī then recited the garland of syllables from that spear
After learning all this the saintly person spoke to the brāhmaṇa in detail
Yati said
Let go of ignorance, which is the form of the people, and the strongest path of action
Having attained discrimination give up the desires of this material world
O brāhmaṇa, please hear from me what I have just begun today
You will have no son for seven lifetimes
In the past Sagara suffered for his descendants
Release your family today, and I will be happy in all renunciations
The Brahmin said
What can be done by discrimination? Give me my son by force
If you don’t, I’ll give up my life in your presence, overwhelmed with grief
This renunciation, devoid of the happiness of sons and others, is indeed dry
A householder is a lake in this world and is surrounded by sons and grandsons
The ascetic, seeing the brāhmaṇa’s reluctance, spoke as follows
Citraketu went through the trouble of cleaning up the inscriptions of the rituals
You will not go happily with your son, just as fate has killed your attempt
You are therefore stubborn, and what can I say to the beggar?
Seeing his insistence he gave him one of the fruits
Eat this, my wife, and you will have a son
Truthfulness, cleanliness, mercy, charity, and food for one’s devotees
A woman should perform her duties for one year so that her son will be very pure
Having said this, the yogī left, and the brāhmaṇa returned home
He gave the fruit in his wife’s hands and went somewhere himself
The young, crooked woman cried in front of her friend
Alas, I am so worried that I cannot eat the fruit
If you eat fruit, you will become pregnant, and if you eat fruit, you will become pregnant
How can one eat little and then be unable to do household chores?
By fate, a woman who is pregnant can go to the village and run away
If the embryo lives like a parrot, how can it be released from its abdomen?
If the pregnancy comes obliquely, then I will die
How can I, a delicate woman, bear the terrible pain of giving birth?
When I am slow, Nananda will withdraw all her possessions from me
The rules of truthfulness and cleanliness are seen to be difficult to worship
There is pain in nurturing and caring for the child
I think that a woman who is barren or widowed is happy
Thus, by the combination of irrational arguments, the fruit of the tree was not eaten
When her husband asked her about the fruit, she replied that she had eaten it
One day her sister came to his house of her own free will
I have already explained everything about it, but I have a great deal to worry about
She was weak and so sad, what could I do for my younger brother?
She said, “I am pregnant, and I will give her to him when he is born ”
Until then, stay at home comfortably, protected as if you were pregnant
Give the wealth to my husband, and he will give you the child
People will say that a six-month-old child is dead
When I come to your house daily, I shall take care of that child
Offer the fruit to the cow, but you’re going to test it right now
Everything that he did was just as it was because of his female nature
In due course of time the woman gave birth to a child
Janaka brought the child and secretly gave him to Dhundhuli
She told her husband that she had given birth to a happy child
Because of the progeny of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the entire world is happy
He gave charity to the brāhmaṇas and performed the birth ceremony
The sound of songs and musical instruments filled the doorway with great auspiciousness
In front of her husband, she said, “I have no breasts in my breasts ”
How can I feed my child without milking him from another breast?
My sister-in-law gave birth to a dead child
Keep her at home, and she will nurture your child
Her husband did everything he could to protect his son
His mother established the name of his son as Dhundhukārī
After three months, the cow gave birth to a baby
It was beautiful in all its limbs and divine, pure and shining like gold
The brāhmaṇa was pleased to see this and began to perform the ritualistic ceremonies himself
Considering it a wonder all the people gathered to see it
Look at the rise of fortune that has now befallen the self-god
It is curious that the cow gave birth to a child in the form of a demigod
No one has ever known the mystery of that, but by the methods of the law
When she saw her son, she gave him the name Gokarṇa
How long did it take for the two young sons to be born?
Gokarna is a learned wise man who is a great wicked man
He lacked bathing and cleanliness, ate bad food and became angry
He who is difficult to marry eats food with the hands of a corpse
A thief hates everyone and lights up other people's houses
She took the children to nurse them and immediately threw them into the well
He is violent and armed and oppresses the poor and blind
He was always attached to the chaṇḍalas and was attached to his breath with a rope in his hand
He destroyed his father’s wealth by his association with a prostitute
Once, after beating his parents, he personally took away the vessels
The poor father, who had no money, cried out loudly
Infertility is the right thing to do, but a bad son is a cause of misery
Where shall I stay, where shall I go, and who shall relieve me of my suffering?
I am giving up my life in grief Alas what a misfortune is befalling me
Then Gokarna, endowed with knowledge, arrived
He awakened Janaka by showing him his renunciation
The world is indeed meaningless and bewildering in the form of suffering
Whose son is his wealth and whose affectionate son is burning constantly?
There is no happiness for Indra, nor for the ruler of the wheel
There is happiness for a detached sage who lives in solitude
Let go of ignorance, which is the form of the people, and the destination of the deluded is hell
This body will fall down, so leave it all and go to the forest
Hearing the words of the king his father desired to leave
My dear son, please tell me in detail what I should do in the forest
I am a deceitful sprout tied to the rope of affection in a blind well
O treasure of mercy, please rescue me, for I have certainly fallen into sin
Gokarna said
Give up your attachment to body, bones, flesh and blood
Always let go of your affection for your wife, children and others
See this world always devoted to the breaking of the moment
Be fond of renunciation and passion and be devoted to devotion
Follow righteousness always and abandon the righteousness of the world
Serve the righteous and kill your lustful desires
Quickly letting go of thinking about the faults and virtues of another
Oh, drink the taste of service stories constantly
Thus, despite the words of his son, he left home
He went to the forest with a steady mind for the past sixty years
He was engaged in the daily service of the Lord
By reciting the tenth chapter he attained Lord Kṛṣṇa as his fixed form
This is the Mahatmya of the Srimad Bhagavatam in the Uttarkhanda of the Sri Padma Purana
This is the fourth chapter of the Vipramokṣa
Oṁ namo bhagavate Vāsudevāya
Chapter Five -
The source said
When his father died, he severely beat his mother
Tell me where the money is, and if you don’t, I’ll kill you with a stick
The mother was terrified of his words and was overcome with grief for her son
At night he threw her into a well and killed her
Gokarna went out on a pilgrimage to a holy place and practiced yoga
He has no pain or pleasure, no enemies or relatives
Dhundhukārī stayed at home surrounded by five bridesmaids
He performed extremely violent acts and was confused about his maintenance
Once the cultists wanted some ornaments
For that purpose, he left home, blinded by lust and remembering death
He withdrew his wealth from everywhere and returned to his house
He gave them many beautiful clothes and ornaments
At night the women contemplated seeing a large accumulation of wealth
He is always stealing, so the king will arrest him
He will certainly take away his wealth and kill him again
So why don’t we kill the secret to protect our wealth?
We’ll kill him and take him somewhere for our purpose
Having thus decided they tied him up with their rays while he was asleep
They put a rope around his neck and began to kill him
They did not die immediately They were filled with anxiety
They also threw heaps of hot coals into his face
He was overcome with great pain from the flames of the fire and died
Most of the brave women threw his body into the pit
No one has ever known the mystery of that, and so has this
When asked by the people, they would say that he had gone far away, for he was dear to us
Attracted by greed for money, he will come back this year
A wise man should not trust women who are wicked
A fool who remains steadfast in faith is humiliated by miseries
Her words are sweet and enhance the taste of her lovers
Who is the dearest of women whose hearts are like the edge of a razor?
They withdrew their wealth and left, the cultists with many husbands
Then Dhundhukari became a great dead man because of his misdeeds
He assumed the form of the wind and constantly ran in ten directions
Tormented by cold and heat he was starving and thirsty
He could not find anywhere to take refuge, crying out again and again, “Alas, my fate!”
How long did it take for Gokarṇa to realize that he was dead?
Knowing that he was an orphan, he performed the shraddha at Gāya
Whenever he went to any holy place, he performed shrāddha rituals
As he wandered about in this way, Gokarna reached his city
At night he came to sleep in the courtyard of the house and was not noticed by others
There, Dhundhukari found his relative asleep
During the night he appeared in a more fearsome form
Once he became a sheep, once he became an elephant, and once he became a buffalo
Once he became Indra, once he became Agni, and once he became the Supreme Personality of Godhead
Seeing this reversal, Gokarna became impatient
Someone decided that this was a miserable man and spoke to him
Gokarna said
Who are you, the fiercest of the night, and where have you come from in this state?
Are you a ghost or a ghost or a demon? Tell us
The source said
When he was asked this, he cried out loudly again and again
Unable to utter any words, he could only consciousness
Then, with water in his palms, Gokarṇa spoke to him
After drinking that water, the sinful King began to speak to the Lord
The ghost said
I am your brother, and I am known as Dhundhukārī
By my own fault I have destroyed my Brahmanhood
There is no number of actions that I have performed in my great knowledge
I am the violent one of the worlds, and I have been killed by women in great pain
That’s why I’ve become a dead man and I’m in a miserable situation
I live by eating the wind, for the fruits are produced by fate
O my brother, O ocean of mercy, please rescue me immediately
On hearing the words of Lord Śiva, Gokarṇa replied as follows
Gokarna said
I have given you the body of Gāya in accordance with the prescribed rituals
So why are you not liberated? This is a great wonder to me
If one does not attain liberation by performing shraddha at Gāya, there is no other means of attaining liberation
O dead body, what should I do? Please tell me the truth in detail
The ghost said
Even if I perform a hundred shraddhas at Gāya, I will not be liberated
Now consider some other means of achieving this goal
When Gokarna heard this, he was astonished
If you cannot attain liberation by performing one hundred shrāddha rituals, liberation is impossible for you
Now, O demon, take your place without fear
After thinking about it, I shall do something that will bring you liberation
Then Dhundhukari went to his place, as ordered by him
That night Gokarṇa thought about it, but he could not find it
Seeing him arrive in the morning the people gathered together with delight
He described to them everything that had happened during the night
They were learned and devoted to yoga and were knowledgeable and eloquent in the Vedas
They did not find that liberation as they looked at the hoards of scriptures
Then all of them placed the words of the sun in the next liberation
Then Gokarṇa stunned the speed of the sun
Obeisances unto You, the witness of the universe Please tell me the means of liberation
Hearing this, the sun-god from a distance spoke to him as if he were crystal clear
Read the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam for a week to attain liberation
Thus the words of the sun-god are well known to all as the form of religious principles
Everyone said, “It’s easy to do this with great effort ”
Gokarna made up his mind and set out to recite the Vedas
People from all over the country and villages flocked there to hear about it
They were lame, blind, old and deaf, and they were all destroyed for their sins
The society, however, has grown so great that it amazes the gods
When Gokarṇa took his seat, he narrated the story
The dead man then went away, looking around for a place
There he saw a tall lizard with seven knots
He entered the hole in the root of the tree and stood there to hear it
Unable to maintain his position in the form of the wind, he entered the dynasty
He assumed that a Vaiṣṇava brāhmaṇa was the chief listener
The cowherd boy gave a clear narrative from the first section
The story that was kept at the end of the day was a wonderful one
There was a difference in the knot of the dynasty, and the virtuous looked on with a sound
On the second day and in the evening the second knot is broken
On the third day and in the evening the third knot is broken
Thus, in seven days, the seven knots were separated
After performing the ritual of hearing the twelve shoulders, he gave up his dead body
He was born in a divine form and adorned with a tulasī leaf
He was dressed in yellow and dark in color and wore a crown and earrings
He immediately bowed down to his brother and called him Gokarṇa
O bondman, by Your mercy You have delivered me from the fatigue of the dead
Blessed is the news of the Bhagavad-gītā, which destroys the pain of the dead
Even a week is so blessed that it bestows the fruits of the world of Lord Kṛṣṇa
All sins are shaken when one hears the Vedas for a week
This story will immediately bring about our destruction
Wet, dry, light and thick, it is made by the actions of speech and mind
Just as fire burns the sacrificial fire, so hearing the Vedas burns sin
In this year, in the land of Bhārata, the great sages met in the assembly of the Vedas
It is said that the birth of a man who does not hear the story of the Lord is fruitless
What is the use of a well-fed and strong man who is protected from delusion?
Without an impermanent body, there is no story of the scriptures of Śukadeva Gosvāmī
A pillar of bone, bound together by muscle, was smeared with flesh and blood
A foul-smelling vessel covered with leather is used for urine and feces
He was afflicted with the consequences of old age and grief, and he was afflicted with the temple of disease
It is difficult to fill, difficult to bear, evil, faulty, and instantly fragile
It is described as the body of worms, feces and ashes
Why should one not accomplish a fixed action with an unsteady body?
Whatever food is prepared in the morning and prepared in the evening is also destroyed
What is the name of eternity in a body that is satisfied with the taste of Him?
In the world of hearing for a week, one can find the Lord nearby
Therefore this is the only means of eliminating errors
They are like bubbles in water, like mosquitoes in animals
Those who are deprived of hearing stories are born only to die
Where the knot of a dull, dry stem is broken
What is it strange then that the knot of the mind is different from hearing the story?
The knot of the heart is broken and all doubts are cut off
If one hears the Vedas for a week, his activities are destroyed
You are the mud of the world, the ointment, the washing cloth
When the mind is situated in the holy place of storytelling, the learned consider it to be liberation
While he was speaking in this way, the plane arrived
It was surrounded by the inhabitants of Vaikuṇṭha
The son of Dhundhulī sent the aerial chariot in the presence of all
Seeing Lord Viṣṇu in the airplane, Gokarṇa addressed him as follows
Gokarna said
There are many pure listeners to Me here
Where did these planes come from at the same time?
Hearing is seen in equal parts by all here
Where did the difference in fruits come from? Please tell me, dear ones of the Lord
Haridasa said
The difference in the results is established here by the difference in hearing
Everyone listened to it but did not meditate on it
O respectful one, there is a difference in the fruits of worship
After fasting for seven nights, the dead body was heard
He did a lot of meditation and so on, keeping his mind steady
Knowledge that is not firm is destroyed, and hearing is destroyed by ignorance
A doubtful mantra is destroyed, an anxious mind is destroyed, and a chanting is destroyed
The non-Vaiṣṇavas have destroyed the place, and the shrāddha ceremony has been destroyed
Charity is destroyed in the śrotriya, immorality is destroyed in the family
Faith in the words of the spiritual master is a feeling of humility in one’s own self
The victory over mental faults is a steady mind in the story
If this is done in the beginning, then the results of hearing are certain
Again, at the end of the hearing, everyone will surely dwell in Vaikuntha
O Gokarṇa, Lord Govinda will personally give you the Goloka planet
Having said this, they all went to Vaikuṇṭha, chanting the holy name of the Lord
In the month of Śrāvaṇa, Gokarṇa spoke the same story again
They listened to the seven-night story again and again
O Nārada, please hear what happened at the end of the story
Then the Supreme Personality of Godhead appeared with His devotees in His airplanes
There were many shouts of victory and obeisances
There, out of delight, Lord Hari Himself made the sound of the Pāñcajanyas
Then Lord Hari embraced Gokarṇa and made him look like Himself
Others in the audience were dark-skinned and dressed in yellow silk
The Lord instantly made them wear crowns and earrings
The living beings who lived in that village were of the horse and caṇḍāla races
By the grace of Gokarṇa, the demigods were placed on the aerial mansion
They are sent to the world of Hari, where the yogīs go
With the ears of the cowherd men, the cowherd boy entered Goloka, the dearest place of the cowherd men
Pleased to hear the story, the devotee-loving Lord left
The inhabitants of Ayodhya were associated with Rama in the past
Thus Lord Kṛṣṇa brought you to the planet of the cows, which is rarely found by yogīs
When does the sun, moon and the Siddhas not move in that place?
By hearing the glories of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, they have attained that planet
Let us tell you today what a bright bunch of fruits you have
It is accumulated in the stories of the weekly sacrifice
By the ear in the letter of the story of the cow's ear
And yellow, you’re pregnant and never again
Vatambuparnasanadehashoshanai-
By severe austerities accumulated for a long time
And by the Yogas they do not attain that path
They go to that place by hearing the story of the week
This pious history is also told by the great sage Śāṇḍilya
One who is situated on Chitrakūṭa mountain recites this mantra immersed in the bliss of the Absolute Truth
This narrative is supremely sacred
Hearing it once, it burns the flood of sins
We carry the satisfaction of the ancestors used in shraddha-
It is always a good reading and it is not born again
This is the Mahatmya of the Srimad Bhagavatam in the Uttarkhanda of the Sri Padma Purana
This is the fifth chapter, describing the liberation of Gokarna
Oṁ namo bhagavate Vāsudevāya
CHAPTER SIX -
The young men said
Next we shall explain to you the method of hearing the Vedas for a week
It is said that the method is usually achievable with the help of Vasu
He summoned the fortune teller and carefully inquired about the moment
The wealth of the marriage should be determined according to the amount of money available
The sky is the month of Aśvinī-kumāra, and the moon is the month of Margaśīrṣa
At the beginning of the story these months indicate liberation for those who hear it
O brāhmaṇa, those months are insignificant and should be abandoned in all respects
Other assistance and other efforts should be made in this regard
This message should be sent from country to country with great effort
There will be a story to be told and families should come here
Some of the stories of Lord Hari are far away, and some of the chants of Lord Acyuta are far away
How can women, śūdras and others be enlightened?
Those who are detached from every country and are eager to chant the holy name of Lord Viṣṇu
It is said that a letter should be sent to them and that it should be written down
The society of the virtuous will be very rare for seven nights
The story will be told in the form of an unprecedented taste
They are greedy for the taste of drinking the nectar of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam
You too, devoted to love, should come soon
Sometimes there is no vacation, even if it is only for a day
By all means, you should come here, for the moment is very rare
This is the reason why they should be treated with humility
Arrange accommodation for all visitors
It is recommended to listen to the Vedas in a holy place or in the forest or at home
The vast earth is the place where the story is to be told
Cleaning, wiping, smearing the ground, and decorating with metals
One should take out the household utensils and place them in the corner of the house
After striking the arvac five times, one should carefully mix the ingredients spread out
A pavilion should be made high and decorated with pieces of banana trees
It is decorated with a canopy of fruits, flowers and petals
He erected flags on all four sides and was illuminated by many opulences
The seven worlds above are to be imagined in detail
The brāhmaṇas should be kept detached from these activities and awakened
First, they should be seated in the same way as in the north
Then one should arrange a divine seat for the speaker
The speaker should face north, and the listener should face east
If the speaker faces east, the listener faces north
Or it may be known as the east direction, between the worshiper and the worshipper
When the hearers came, they were told by those who knew the place, time and other things
A detached Vaiṣṇava brāhmaṇa purifies the Vedas and scriptures
He should be skilled in illustrations sober and eloquent and not very eager
They are confused by many religions and are hypocrites
If they are learned they should be abandoned in reciting the story of the scriptures of Śukadeva Gosvāmī
Another person of the same kind should be placed next to the speaker to assist him
He is a learned man who dispels doubts and is devoted to enlightening the world
One should shave one’s mouth from day to day to complete one’s vow
When the sun rises in the morning, one should complete his cleansing and take a bath
Every day you should briefly perform your rituals beginning with evening rituals with great effort
One should worship Lord Ganesha to prevent any obstacles to the story
After satisfying the ancestors, one should perform the penance for purification
A circle should be made and the Lord Hari should be placed there
One should chant the mantra in the name of Lord Kṛṣṇa and then perform the rituals of worship
At the end of the worship one should circumambulate the deity and offer obeisances to him
O treasure of mercy, I am wretched and drowned in the ocean of material existence
Please rescue me from the ocean of material existence, for I am overwhelmed by the delusion of karma
Then he also worshiped the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam with great effort
The ceremony should be performed according to the prescribed rituals with love and incense and lamps
Then, holding the Śrīphala, one should offer obeisances
Only then should praise be offered with a happy heart
This Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is directly known as Kṛṣṇa
O master, I have accepted You for liberation from the ocean of material existence
This wish of mine has been fulfilled in every way by you
O Keśava, I am Your servant, and I must act without hindrance
Thus, after reciting the words of the poor, one should worship the speaker
After worshiping the Lord, one should adorn Him with clothes and ornaments and praise Him
Shukarupa, the enlightener, is an expert in all scriptures
By the light of this story, please destroy my ignorance
Before that, the rule should be followed happily for the best
He should be worn for seven nights as much as he can
The boon of the five brāhmaṇas is to prevent the breaking of the story
They should chant the mantra of the Supreme Personality of Godhead in the twelve syllables of the Vedas
They also worshiped brāhmaṇas and other Vaiṣṇavas who chanted mantras
After bowing down and worshiping the Lord, one should personally take his seat
He gave up worrying about the world’s wealth, treasures, treasures and sons
He whose mind is fixed on the story and whose mind is pure will attain the highest reward
It begins at sunrise and ends at three and a half hours
A story should be read with perfect soberness and intelligence
The story should be interrupted for two hours at noon
Then the Vaiṣṇavas should chant the holy narration of the Lord
A light diet is pleasant to conquer feces and urine
One who desires to hear the story should offer oblations of ghee once
If one is able to do so, one should fast for seven nights and then hear the Vedas
After drinking ghee and milk, one should hear the Vedas happily
It should be heard by eating fruits or by a single devotee
Whatever is easily achievable should be done to hear about it
I think food is better than listening to stories
Fasting is not recommended if it interferes with the story
O Narada hear the rules of men observing vows for a week
Those who have not been initiated into Lord Viṣṇu have no right to hear the story
Celibacy, sleeping underneath and eating on a leaf
At the end of the story one should always enjoy the story
Two leaves of honey, oil, and the best food
A woman who is constantly engaged in the story should always avoid anything that is corrupt in her emotions
Lust, anger, pride, pride, envy and greed
A worshiper of the story should remove pride, delusion and hatred
They also followed the Vedas, Vaiṣṇavas, brāhmaṇas, teachers and cow-vows
A man who is faithful to the story should avoid condemning the great kings of women
They were also mentioned by the Rajasvalas, Antyajamlechhas, Fallen Vratyas and others
